Summertime means fun in the sun, but more protection for your hearing aids! Just as the seasons change, so does your hearing aid care. So let’s go over some summer dos and don’ts when it comes to your hearing aids.

  • Don’t wear in or around water. It is a well-known fact that hearing aids and water do not mix and this is forever more truer in the summertime. Do use caution when you are at home in the yard when water the plants or playing in the sprinkler with the kids. Do use caution when you are at the lake or beach. Do use caution when you go to the pool. Even though you may be relaxing sunning yourself on a lounger by the pool one cannonball could spell disaster for you and your hearing aids.
  • Do show caution outside. You should use caution when outside in the elements. A freak rain storm or a gust of wind could cause irreversible damage to your hearing aids. Moisture could get into your hearing aids causing extreme damage. Dust and debris can do the same thing to your hearing aids. So please do use caution when doing yard work, walking in the evenings or playing outside during the day as you never know when it could rain or a gust of wind could interrupt you and your hearing aids away. Please use caution and if possible remove your hearing aids and place them in a safe dry and dust free place like your hearing aid case.
  • Do prepare for the beach. Use extreme caution when at the beach or the lake because dust, debris and water are all present and they are all known individually and together to cause massive problems when it comes to your hearing aids. The best bet in these situations is to leave your hearing aids at home or in the hotel room some place safe where they cannot be damaged. If you do take then with you make sure you have a safe place to store them when you are playing around such as the case they came with or a sunglasses case.

It is beautiful out and you want and should be able to take advantage of it; just make sure to be safe and follow these three easy summertime hearing aid dos and don’ts.
