With over ten million users in the United States alone, knowing what to look out for when you need hearing aid repairs can be quite shaky ground. We are going to look today at some of the things you can expect, should you need hearing aid repairs.

Poor Quality

One of the main things you should expect if you require hearing aid repairs would be a noticeable change is sound quality.

The first thing you may notice is a static like interference from your device. The main thing to remember if you have distortion or poor-quality sound is that generally this is a technical issue.

With an issue like this, the first thing you should be doing is contacting your hearing health professional. Technical issues are usually found with the outlet or amplifier of the device. The amplified is the brain of the device.

It takes the sound and increases it before sending it to the outlet. The amplifier may be the issues that is causing the distortion and will need addressing as a matter of urgency.

Sound Breakage

Broken sound is something that occurs quite frequently. This itself is more regularly found in warmer climates but is not exclusive to them.

Broken sound can occur if the device is not receiving the 1.25v it requires to function properly. From time to time this can obviously be as simple as the need for a new battery. The majority of the time this is due to battery corrosion.

The corrosion occurs when moisture is introduced to the battery housing. This moisture causes corrosion on the metal terminals which in turn produces very poor battery performance.

If battery corrosion due to moisture takes place, then a hearing health professional is going to be the best solution. The moment the corrosion occurs you will notice changes in your hearing device. Addressing these as soon as possible is the best way to ensure device longevity.

Stopped working

The one thing that you will absolutely find that will require your hearing health professional is if you have no sound at all.

Having absolutely no sound at all, does not mean that the device is totally dead. These devices are elegantly simple and should one of the three main channels be suffering. The whole device can fall under complete silence.

The three technical issues that can occur, can each fall victim to a blockage. The hearing device works with the combination of a microphone, amplifier and speaker. The sound is collected by the microphone, translated and increased by the amplifier and projected by the speaker.

If either the microphone or the speaker becomes blocked, it will seem that the device is not working. These blockages can either occur due to earwax or sometimes hairspray. Should you find your device has seemingly stopped working. You should contact your hearing health professional as soon as possible.

These are just a few things that you can expect should you need hearing aid repairs. Your audiologist will always educate you on the best ways to prevent problems from occurring again in the future.
